The next meeting of the Southern California OS/2 User Group

2001-09-10 16:25:55 -- Igor Vanin [VOICENWS, Gary Wong]

The next meeting of the Southern California OS/2 User Group (SCOUG) will be this Saturday, September 15, 2001 at 9:00 AM PDT, at Regal Lanes in Orange, 1485 N. Tustin Ave.

SCOUG's 8th Anniversary Celebration and Installing Iterations of OS/2 eComStation, Warp 4, Convenience Pak, and Warp Server for e-Business.

What could be more fun than watching OS/2 install? Why, watching it install over and over again, of course!

Think we're joking? Well, think again. SCOUG members always seem to find the installation of OS/2 fascinating, so we're going to do it up royally.

We'll have several basically identical clean systems ready and waiting Saturday morning. The plan is to install a different OS/2 flavor on each machine, and our targets are eCS, Warp 4, Convenience Pak, and Warp Server for e-Business. And, we may even try installing eCS over an existing OS/2 desktop just to see what happens.

Cake? Did we mention cake? You already know to expect free donuts, but this September is extra special. It's our anniversary celebration after all, so of course there will be fattening treats for the occasion. And gifts? You bet! A super celebration raffle with no junk. You'd have to say we're packing a lot into this one meeting!

Help Desk chats now happen on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM PDT. If you've got a problem with hardware or software, join the chat and ask for help. For further info, go to http://www.scoug.com/chat/index.html.

Sunday, October 7, 2:30 PM PDT meetings at Chapman University, Orange:

OS/2 Help Desk: Got problems with your system? Volunteers at the OS/2 Help Desk will help you solve them. Bring your system and all related components along with a detailed explanation of your problem.

Networking SIG: Will be providing help to members with various networking issues.

How to get to Regal Lanes:

From the 55 freeway, exit Katella Ave. heading west. Turn right (north) at the first major intersection onto Tustin Ave. At the next signal you'll find Regal Lanes on your right. It's across from the Toyota of Orange dealership.

There's lots of parking on the south side of the building. Enter from the east entrance of the building (farthest from Tustin Ave.), not the main (front) entrance to the facility. Take the stairs to the 2nd floor; meeting rooms (and restrooms) will be on your left.

Handicapped access is via an elevator by the front door.

OR: Go to http://www.scoug.com/directions.html; there is a map to Regal Lanes, plus a more detailed map & driving directions from Yahoo!

How to get to Chapman University:

There are two ways to get directions:
1) Go to http://www.scoug.com/warpexpowest/sitemap.html
2) Go to http://www.mapquest.com/ and enter the address 400 N. Center Street, Orange, CA.

You can park in any of the University lots for free on Sundays, but if you part on the street, watch the signs carefully or else risk getting a parking ticket.

Come to Hashinger Hall Science Building, room 203. It's on the second floor and there's an elevator for you to bring up your equipment.

Come and join us!

Introduction of a brand new and revolutionary OS/2 related open source project (not open yet). This will be a major attraction but we can't reveal too much at this time.

Note: this is only possible if

  • Sander van Leeuwen can make it to Toronto and
  • the project has advanced enough to be worthwhile to demo and discuss.
  • No, it is not related to ODIN! :-)
