Just to add, with the latest addition to CUPS of a USB backend, this printer can be used either via the LAN connection or the USB connection. Also the built-in muliti-memory card reader works with eComStation as a USB MSD device.

For details on how to install and set up CUPS please refer to:

Depending upon how you need to use the scanner - or more correctly perhaps how much you need to use the scanner, you may want to take the approach I have.

I have a HP Officejet 6310 All-in-one MFC. This is a printer / scanner / fax machine with a built in memory card reader. The printer works with CUPS using the OJ 7110 driver and the card reader is seen as an MSD by eComStation. The important point is that the MFC has a "scan to memory card" option, you may find other makes/models with similar features.

What I do is insert a (prepared for OS/2 - i.e. LVM recognised) SD memory card in the reader. Put my originals in the auto-feeder and scan to the card (all on the machine itself). I then go to my eCS screen and copy the graphic scan files from the SD card (which appears as the next drive letter in drives) to my HD and use the file as required.

This approach avoids the need to find a specific scanner driver at all.

The disadvantage is if you are looking to control your scanner from within an application, it does take longer than if the scanner was defined to eCS, but it works for me as I only rarely need to scan anything.
